First time I heard about this comic was in the magazine, I interested with this comic because the author of this comic is same with one of my favorite comic, Death Note which became one of the most successful comic in Japan and the adaptation live action movie of this comic was a box office in Japan. When I read a review about Bakuman, I interested with the story in this comic which non-mainstream with the Shōnen (teenager boys) comic in general.
The comic who written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata told about Moritaka Mashiro, 14 years old boy who didn’t know what he wants in the future, One day he drew a picture of Miho Azuki on the math notebook , a girl he like. During class he forgot the math notebook at school. He came back to the class and found that his classmate Akito Takagi (the class genius) was waiting for him with his notebook. Takagi tried to persuade Mashiro to become a mangaka (manga artist), with him. Mashiro’s childhood dream was to draw manga for a living but, his Uncle was a mangaka who had only one successful series before he died in obscurity. That was the reason why Mashiro stop dreaming to become mangaka. However, Takagi was successful to persuade Mashiro to become a mangaka, and tells Azuki that he and Mashiro are aiming to be mangaka. Mashiro then learns that Azuki wanted to be a seiyū (a voice actor), and if the manga (comic) is successful and became a anime (animation film / cartoon) which Azuki will be the seiyū of the heroine, Mashiro will be married Azuki. Although he knew about many obstacles to becoming a mangaka, finally he agreed to became a mangaka.
This comic have a interesting story and a lot of knowledge about comic industry in Japan, like the editor position in comic industry, the process of create a Names, Manuscript and Manga itself, and even the difference of G-pen and Kabura pen. In my point of view this comic was cool, amusing, unpredictable, and great. The comic also have a message like we must try hard to catch our dream, friendship and many more.
